I picked up the latest version of my favorite game ever. Weee! Boy am I glad I purchased a Blu-ray player that also plays Playstation3 games.

In fulfilling its obligation to prevent as much fun as possible, the NCAA doesn’t allow EA Sports to include player names in its NCAA football games.
Fortunately, EA Sports is cool enough to leave methods for easy roster sharing user-created rosters amongst its customer base. So if you want actual last names instead of stuff like “HB #5″ on the backs of player jerseys in your NCAA09 game, head over to www.freencaa09rosters.com and find out how.

Playstation 3 quirks January 11, 2008

I’m the proud owner of a new Playstation 3. It is positively the funnest Blu-ray player a person can own. I’ll only get to play it on redeye nights, but what the heck.

Sadly, here are quirks PS3 owners or would-be owners might want to know about.
The PS3 has been manufactured in 4 different models – 20GB (discountined), 40GB, 60GB (almost discontinued), and 80GB. Obviously, the primary differences are the hard drives. The 40GB model is the only model that can’t play Playstation 2 games. The 20GB and 60GB models have hardware support for PS2 games while the 80GB model has only software emulation to support PS2 games.
And now for the potentially frustrating part. The PS3 has a built-in media server which can be used to transfer music and videos between your PS3 and your computer(s). Cool. Well, almost. If you have one of the world’s most popular wi-fi routers form Linksys, then the PS3 media server will crash your wi-fi (the PS3 works fine with other brands of routers – WAKE UP, LINKSYS!!) Everything on your network will periodically loose connectivity or not connect at all due to techno-babble I won’t get into details about. To connect your PS3 to you home Linksys-based wi-fi network, you must:
1) Setup your PS3 with a static IP address.
2) In your router, setup the PS3′s static address for DMZ.
2) Turn off upnp in your router.
4) Turn off your PS3′s media server.
Hope that made sense. If not, just google it.
Why would you want to put your PS3 on your network? Because online gameplay is free from Sony! Woo-hoo! Take that, Xbox Live! You have not played video games until you’ve played against human opponents.
