The Playstation store has 15, count ‘em 15, expansion packs available for Guitar Hero III. Half of them or recognizable, half are not. I have some Def Leppard and No Doubt downloading now.
Word to Activision – bring on Van Halen!

Cult Of Personality. I have a blast playing this song. Love that repeating guitar riff. Its got to be the most memorable thing out there since Owner Of A Lonely Heart.
Check out that guitarist, Vernon Reid – especially on his solo at the 2:56 mark. Just wow. How on earth were these guys only a one hit wonder? They’re freaking incredible.
I can play this OK on medium mode in GHIII. But at the next level, its gonna look like this:
Yikes.
Yeah, Guitar Hero. But I don’t kid myself. Maybe one day when I have boatloads of free time I can try it like this:

Just got done with a little co-op mode jam session using my Playstation3 Guitar Hero guitar with the PC version of Guitar Hero, and of course the guitar made for the PC version. Here’s how that’s done. I picked this tip from a PS3 forum.
1. Go here, download, and install the PS3 Sixaxis driver for the PC. This will make the PS3 controller act like a generic USB game controller.
. Ignore the filter driver for now.
. Unpack ps3sixaxis_en.exe
. Plug the SIXAXIS into your PC.
. Run ps3sixaxis_en.exe once.
. Push the PS button on the SIXAXIS once if it doesn’t see it straight away.
2. Go into Guitar Hero no the PC and write down what all the keyboard controls are (eg: yellow is the X key). Yes, for some reason they made it so GH3 can be played through a computer keyboard.
3. Now download and run this little joy2key shareware program which will convert the “generic game controller” (PS3 guitar) to the keyboard keys defined in Step 2.
Here’s what you’ll need to know to run joy2key. The PS3 guitar and “generic game controller” are related to each other as follows:
POV 1 UP /DOWN = Strum
button 1 => Square / Yellow
button 2 => X / Green
button 3 => O / Red
button 4 => Triangle / Blue
button 5 => L1 / Orange
Bouton 9 => Select
Now, use joy2key to map “button 1″, “button 2″, etc. to their respective keyboard keys from step 2. For example, if you wrote down that yellow = X on the keyboard, use joy2key to map “button 1″ to X.
Wash, rinse repeat.
I don’t know how the Wammy bar gets mapped into this. Would be nice to know which generic game controller button was the wammy bar.
Anyway, this is what I did and it seems to work.
Guitar Hero driving music sales January 21, 2008

Guitar Hero fans long for more songs to play with their game. There are few new song packs that can be downloaded and added to the game. But I think that may change.
It is becoming clear that Guitar Hero is driving music sales. Music featured in the game is selling in mp3 and cd format. Better yet, what few songs are available for download as expansions to the game are putting up awfully strong numbers.
I know I’d like to have more songs to jam on. There’s exactly one ZZ Top song in Guitar Hero 3, La Grange. Its fun to play. But playing that song prompted me to listen to my ZZ Top cds on the way to work. Wow, I’d be the first in line to buy a bunch more ZZ Top songs for Guitar Hero if they were available.

The possibilities, and the money (HELLO, MUSIC INDUSTRY), are limitless. There’s so much great music out there, old and new, with snazzy guitar solos that would be a blast with Guitar Hero. Van Halen, Eric Clapton, Dire Straits, Boston, Pearl Jam….heck, how about Eddie Van Halen’s guitar solo in Beat It.
Added to the profit potential should be the attractive notion that music downloaded for Guitar Hero is ONLY useful to Guitar Hero. Its essentially pirateless. Lots of profit potential + no piracy = slam dunk.
So come on record people, get on the ball.
