For the first time ever, a Rankin County city is going to hold an election to let its citizens decide if city restaurants can sell liquor & wine by the glass. Frankly, I find it preposterous that there was ever a question as to whether a city could hold a vote on alcohol. But nonetheless, the election is happening as predicted here.
The proposal is limited to restaurants. “Liquor store on every corner” fearmongerers that have defeated prior county-wide alcohol votes won’t have much ammo in this election.
I think there’s a groundswell of people that want margaritas with their fajitas at El Sombrero, white wine with their chicken & pasta at Cerami’s, and red wine with their steak at….well, we’ll surely get a steak restaurant when this thing passes.
I predict a landslide win in favor of alcohol in Flowood restaurants.
And years later after this thing is shown to be a smashing success, I think we’ll see similar changes across Mississippi. Finally.

Says here the Mississippi University for Women is going to be renamed to one of: Waverly University, Reneau University, or Welty-Reneau University.
My top choices would be Mississippi School For Math & Science or Mississippi State Univerity of Columbus. In other words – can it, merge it, consolidate it. Sorry folks. You too, Mom.
Mississippi has about 8 times too many public universities. Our state likes to point out that it leads the nation in a number of things per-capita. But leading the nation for adminstration per capita is a bad thing. State government in general, the number of public school districts, and the number of colleges & universities should be slashed 6 to 8 fold.
