Mustang exhaust update October 26, 2008

As I mentioned earlier, the Stinger mufflers I had on my car annoyed me to death with drone. I replaced those with FRPP GTA’s Here’s what that sounds like.

They aren’t as mean & burly as the Stingers. But they barely have any drone at all. Not enough to notice unless were trying to listen for it.

I think that’s about as mean & growly as exhaust can get without producing drone. I’d prefer a much deeper tone, but its that deep tone that produces the drone. Can’t have the cake & eat it too.

You hot-rodders out there there are tons of options for custom exhaust. Here’s what I’ve had on my car most recently.

That’s my 2008 Mustang GT with a Bassani Catted X-pipe and FRPP Stinger mufflers. All else is stock. Man or man I loved that sound.

But I had to get rid of it. The Stingers droned way to bad for my taste. It was too much for me to tolerate. But when it wasn’t droning it was music to my ears.

I’ll probably replace the Stingers with FRPP GTA’s or Corsa’s. Neither of those drone at all.

The GTA’s are basically toned down Stingers and they come standard on Mustang Shelby’s. Enthusiasts say the GTAs are a bit too quiet though.

Corsa’s are a patented muffler with a built-in resonator to eliminate drone. But also elimnated are the deep tones that you hear in the Stingers. That’s kind of a downer. But at higher rpm, they really scream.
